ProMiles Alternatives for Oversize Permits and Routing (2026)
Published by JaloPermit, one of the products discussed. It summarizes linked public product pages checked October 22, 2026. It is not a hands-on test, a ranking or an endorsement by any vendor. Features, prices and state support change, so confirm with each vendor and with the issuing office.
People search for “ProMiles alternatives” for different reasons, because ProMiles is not one product. ProMiles’ home page lists truck routing and mileage software, fuel tax reporting, a fuel finder, the PermitManager permitting platform and the free Permit Route Guidance app, among others. An alternative to one of those is not an alternative to the others.
So this guide sorts the options by the job you need done on an oversize or overweight move: ordering permits, planning truck routes and mileage, following the route the state issued, and reading the permit you already hold. It does not quote competitor prices, because packages and terms change; ask each vendor for a current quote.
First, which ProMiles product are you replacing?
Name the product before you shop:
- Routing and mileage. ProMiles describes planning truck-legal routes with mileage, drive time, truck stop locations and fuel optimization.
- PermitManager. Its PermitManager page describes a platform for carriers and permit services to order oversize/overweight and trip and fuel permits from multiple jurisdictions with one application, plus route mapping, cost quotes, a driver app and an API.
- Permit Route Guidance. Its Permit Route Guidance page describes a free app that gives in-cab visual and voice guidance on a state-issued route, for states that support it, after the driver scans the permit barcode or enters the permit number.
Fuel tax and IFTA tools are outside the scope of this guide. The sections below take the three permit-related jobs one at a time, then add a fourth job that none of them is built for: reading the issued permit itself.
Alternatives for ordering and tracking permits
If you use PermitManager to get permits issued, the realistic alternatives are:
- Ordering directly from each state’s permit portal. Every state runs its own system for oversize and overweight permits. This costs only the state fees, but someone in the office has to learn each portal and enter the move once per state.
- A permit service. Companies such as Omnipermits say they obtain oversize, overweight, superload, trip and fuel permits for carriers. You pay a service fee and they do the data entry. See JaloPermit vs Omnipermits for what that service lists publicly.
- Office permit-management software. Oversize.io’s permit system page describes a system for organizing permit requests, orders, delivery to drivers and billing, whether you order permits yourself or through a permit company. The page states that it does not process permits itself.
In a trial, ask which jurisdictions are covered, how the application is entered, how the issued permit reaches the driver, and what the total cost is per permit and per seat. Our oversize permit management tools comparison goes further on this job.
Alternatives for truck routing and mileage
For planning and mileage, the best-known alternative is Trimble PC*MILER. Trimble’s PC*MILER overview describes truck-specific routing using vehicle dimensions and restrictions, plus mileage and toll information. Our PC*MILER oversize routing review lists the questions to put to Trimble before buying.
One warning applies to every routing product, ProMiles included. A planned route is an estimate for quoting and dispatch. Once a state issues a routed permit, the road sequence on that permit is the one the load is authorized to use, and a routing tool cannot change it. For more on that split, see oversize load route planning software compared.
Alternatives for following the permitted route
ProMiles Permit Route Guidance retrieves the route the state system created for a single-trip routed permit and voices it in the cab. Its public page says the app has no routing or oversize/overweight restriction information of its own, and that support depends on the issuing state. Details are in our ProMiles Permit Route Guidance review.
When your state or permit type is not supported, there is no exact drop-in replacement we can point to. The fallback is the one drivers have always used: read the route on the permit, mark the turns, curfews and escort points before departure, and check off each road as you go. A general truck GPS can help with the drive but does not know the permit, so where the two disagree, the permit wins.
Reading the issued permit: where JaloPermit fits
None of the jobs above is about reading the permit document once it is issued. Yet that is where escort requirements, travel windows, bridge provisions and other conditions sit, often spread across several pages.
That reading step is what JaloPermit does. Drop an already-issued, text-based permit PDF into the permit decoder on the JaloPermit homepage and it lays out the route, escorts, curfews, dimensions and limits on one route card, with weigh stations, truck stops and low-bridge alerts, so the driver or dispatcher can check it against the original. Our comparison of ProMiles Permit Guidance and reading the issued PDF shows how the two can work on the same move.
JaloPermit, which publishes this guide, is a reading aid for issued permit PDFs. It is not a permit-filing service and it does not plan routes or provide navigation. The issued permit always wins.
JaloPermit covers the 48 contiguous states and reads text-based PDFs only, not scans or photos. Guests get three free decodes a day with no account and no card. Logged-in users get 10 free decodes a day. After those free decodes, each one is $3.50. There is no subscription.
Quick comparison by job
| Your job | ProMiles product | Alternatives to look at |
|---|---|---|
| Get permits issued | PermitManager | State permit portals, a permit service, office permit-management software such as Oversize.io |
| Plan routes and mileage | ProMiles routing | Trimble PC*MILER |
| Follow the state-issued route in the cab | Permit Route Guidance | Reading and marking the route on the permit itself, where the app is not supported |
| Read the issued permit PDF | Not a listed ProMiles product | JaloPermit route card, checked against the original |
This table matches products to jobs. It is not a ranking, and many fleets use more than one of these tools on the same move.

FAQs
What is the best alternative to ProMiles? It depends on which ProMiles product you mean. For permit ordering, look at state portals, permit services or office permit software. For routing and mileage, Trimble PC*MILER is the common comparison. For reading an issued permit PDF, JaloPermit is built for that step.
Is ProMiles Permit Route Guidance free? ProMiles’ public page describes the app as free and says support depends on the issuing state. Confirm with the issuing office that your permit type is supported.
Does JaloPermit replace ProMiles? No. JaloPermit does not order or file permits, plan routes or give in-cab navigation. It reads an already-issued, text-based permit PDF into a route card for review. The issued permit always wins.
Can a routing tool change my permitted route? No. A planned route is an estimate. The road sequence on the issued permit is the authorized route, and any change has to go through the issuing office.
What does JaloPermit cost? Guests get three free decodes a day with no account and no card. Logged-in users get 10 free decodes a day. After those free decodes, each one is $3.50. There is no subscription.
