Travel times & curfews

When a permitted load can move

  • Standard hours

Oversize loads: daylight hours only. Overweight-only loads meeting legal size limits may move at any hour with a permit. The permit-issuing authority may further restrict a move to daylight hours of minimum traffic volume as a permit condition.

  • Night travel

Daylight only unless legal height, permitted, signed and lighted: a single unit alone over 60' but not over 75'; a single unit over 60' in a combination under 110' overall; a load up to 10' wide on Interstate only (5-mile allowance off-Interstate for fuel, food, delivery).

  • Weekend travel

No weekend-specific rule is published apart from holidays. Moves requiring escorts are barred across a holiday weekend, one-half hour after sunset the day before to one-half hour before sunrise the day after; holiday on Saturday closes Thursday sunset to Monday sunrise.

  • Holiday restrictions

Only oversize moves requiring escorts are restricted: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Christmas Day, from one-half hour after sunset the evening before to one-half hour before sunrise the day after. Thanksgiving is restricted that day only.

  • Urban restrictions

Loads over 18' wide may not travel on primary or secondary highways during local school bus hours or heavy commuter traffic as determined by the Overweight Loads Office. Loads over 26' wide are barred where the roadway is 32' wide or less.

Signs, flags & lights

Signage Wyoming expects

  • Oversize load sign

OVERSIZE LOAD signs must be fully visible front and rear on every oversize move: yellow background, at least 60 inches wide by 10 inches high, black letters at least 8 inches high and 1 inch wide on a single line. Cover or remove when not oversize.

  • Flags

Red or fluorescent orange flags at least 12 inches square at each front and rear corner that exceeds legal width, at any wider extremity, and on rear overhang of 4 feet or more; one flag if the overhang is 2 feet wide or less, two flags if wider.

  • Beacons

Over-width loads moving after daylight need amber clearance lights on each front corner, red on each rear corner, plus a revolving amber light, amber strobe, or paired two-way flashing amber lights at least 4 in. across, visible 1,000 ft. Escorts carry the same.
