  • Standard hours

    Hours of daylight only: one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. The rule covers overweight-only loads as well as oversize, unless the permit or NDOT special instructions say otherwise.

  • Night travel

    Barred during hours of darkness unless the permit allows it. Annual-permit night moves are capped at 12' wide, 15' high, 110' long (120' with mechanically steered rear axles) and 15' overhang. Over 12' wide at night needs front and rear pilot cars.

  • Weekend travel

    No weekend movement unless the permit allows it. Weekend runs one-half hour after sunset Friday to one-half hour before sunrise Monday. Annual-permit weekend moves are capped at 12' wide, 15' high, 110' long (120' with steered rear axles) and 15' overhang.

  • Holiday restrictions

    No movement during holiday hours: New Year's, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Monday holiday: noon-midnight the Friday before and the holiday. Tue-Thu: 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday holiday or Thanksgiving: noon-midnight the day before and the Sunday after.

  • Urban restrictions

    I-15 between the California line and Las Vegas Exit 33 is capped at 12' wide on single-trip permits northbound Friday 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and southbound Sunday 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The single-trip cap elsewhere is 14' wide.

    Required on any oversize load: over 8'6" wide, over 14' high or over legal length. Signs front and rear reading OVERSIZE LOAD or OVERSIZE, black letters at least 10" high with a 1 5/8" stroke on yellow (NAC 484D.680).

  • Flags

    At least 18" square, solid red or fluorescent orange, at each front and rear corner of the vehicle, and of the load if wider than the vehicle, plus any point marking maximum width. Rear overhang over 4': a flag at its center, or one at each corner if over 2' wide (NAC 484D.680).

  • Beacons

    Pilot cars: two flashing amber lights above the roofline, or one visible 500' all around; the permittee holds the NHP amber permit (NAC 484D.670). Oversize or overweight at night: two steady amber lights front, one each side, two red if rear overhang over 4' (NAC 484D.675).
